Young Tamil Nadu IM Narayanan Srinath emerged champion in the 3rd Keshabananda Das Memorial All-India FIDE Rating (1900 & above) Chess Tournament, outwitting top seeded Grandmaster M R Venkatesh (PSPB) in the 10th and final round here at Hotel Empires here today.
Srinath, 20, finished with 8.5 points to take home the top prize of Rs 1.5 lakh. A bespectacled Srinath said the title here would boost his confidence and help him improve his rating, which now stands at 2405.
Maharashtra IM Swapnil S Dhopade finished runner-up with eight points. He upset PSPB Grandmaster Neelotpa Das in the final round to pocket Rs 70,000. ICF Grandmaster R R Laxman won the third prize of Rs 50,000, getting the better of Navalgund Niranjan (Tamil Nadu).
